Myke and Allison Adventures: Birthday Weekend Recap
I love the idea of getting out of your home town for your birthday. For Myke’s birthday this weekend, I wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of every day life. So we decided to use Airbnb to get out for just a night. Myke loves the woods, so we were looking for something along those lines. We found a super cute place in Topanga Caynon, which is about 30 minutes away from our home. It took us a while to get there, but when we got there, I felt this weirdness about it. The description said that it was eccentric and a little odd. That wasn’t what bothered us. The house had more windows than I had ever seen in a house ever. We had no sense of privacy and I felt really uncomfortable. I felt bad and felt like I was ruining my husband’s birthday weekend. Turns out after I had told him that I wasn’t feeling the greatest, he felt the same way. He would have stayed, but he still felt the way I felt. We left and went back home and emailed the gentlemen we rented from. When we were driving home we looked into the refund option and he said that he does not give out refunds. I was a little worried, but about a hour after we emailed him, he sent an email back saying that he was sorry we didn’t feel comfortable and he would give us a partial refund. Even though the place wasn’t the best, I am happy that he was understanding enough to give us a partial refund. That made us feel a little better about a situation, even though we may not use the website for a while now, I don’t have too many bad things to say about the experience.
After the creepy experience, we went to the mall and got some Starbucks and walked around for a little bit while Myke thought about what he wanted to do. He decided he wanted to go home and rent some movies from Redbox and eat some cake. I was more the happy to oblige. We rented We’re the Millers, Fruitvale Station, and Insdie Llewyn Davis. It was a nice relaxing night that the turned into a good nights sleep and an extremely lazy Saturday. Myke wanted to do nothing, so that’s what I allowed him to do. In the afternoon, I went and visited my friend and Myke took his second nap of the day. He said it was the best gift I could have given him. Sunday was church day and Myke’s actual birthday. He got phone calls from both parents and I got his favorite cake from Von’s. We invited some people over and we ate cake, laughed, and visited while the kids drew on our chalkboard coffee table. When everyone left and I was cleaning, Myke gave me a big hugged and I asked if he was happy. He smiled big and said “Yes.” It was a good weekend for him, Saturday he was by himself, rested, and refueled. Sunday he was able to talk and visit all day.
^^He may not look like it, but he was happy.
*Airbnb has no idea who I am. We simply attempted to use their website and it didn’t work so well for us, however the I have known other people to use this website and really enjoyed it. This is just one personal experience.
