P Dunes 2015

Living in southern California, I don’t get to see my family very often, which is difficult for me. Growing up, Grandma lived 10 minutes away, Papa lived a couple hours away and my extended family all lived between 10 minutes to an hour away. I’m close with my family and being away from them for a long time can be hard for me. There are times when I look at how I’m feeling and I think about when was the last time I talked to my family, both Davis and Clements. That’s usually when I send a text or give a call.

Every year since 1985, the Davis family, Dad’s side of the family, has gone to Pajaro Dunes, a vacation home area on the beach in Monterey. My dad’s mom past away the year before that and her mom, my great-grandmother, wanted to make sure she saw her family at least once a year for a period of time. That was when our annual family reunion was born. I have gone pretty much every year, give or take a few with college and finances. Myke has been once and loved it and this year I’m so excited to say that we both will be going and the weekend is here. My mom is flying me out early to take care of a few things in northern California and then Myke is driving up on Friday.

The weekend consists of anything you want it to be. Literally, you can go get a mani/pedi, you can go golfing, you can go read on the beach, go swimming, or sit in your house and watch TV. The only obligation of the entire weekend is on dinner with the whole family. We also take a family picture every year. I wouldn’t trade my family for anything in the world. They have been there for me when I needed and even when I didn’t need them, their hugs and love always make my heart warm and brings a smile to my face.’

Last year I went up without Myke, so he is very excited to be going and seeing everyone again. We started talking more about what we were going to do this past weekend and those plans consists of sleeping, going to lay on the beach, sleep, eat, and then maybe sleep. You can guess that this trip is great time to revive for me. Not having to worry about too much for a weekend means a lot to me and to Myke as well. I’m making him sleep most of Saturday, the guy deserves it.
