A Marathon is Two of These?!
We survived.
We are sore, but are in one piece.
Friday night we drove to Sacramento and got in around 1am. We stayed at the Clements home, slept in, and they treated us to a movie, The Equalizer. If you are in the mood for a good action packed movie with a pretty interesting story, this is a great movie. After the movie we drove to Fleet Feet on J Street and picked up our shirts, bibs, and a free backpack. Then we made our way to the Davis house. My parents were cooking us our dinner and listening to the Giants game.
We went to bed somewhat early and woke up at 6am. Dad drove us to the race and the whole way there I was full of nerves. The longest I had ever ran was 6 miles and I was afraid my shin splints were going to come back while running and I was afraid that I wasn’t going to do well. Myke and Dad just kept telling me that it doesn’t matter how you get there, as long as you finish.
Miles 1-5 were good. 6 and 7 I started to feel my legs a little bit. Mile 8 was a different story. I had a melt down. My side started hurting and my back started hurting and I pushed through it a couple times, but it started to feel worse as the race went on. When I drank water, it felt a lot better, they also gave us Gatorade during the race which helped a lot more than I was expecting.
Mile 9 and 10 I was impossible. I need to do some major make up to Myke for being so good to me. He was so patient with me and supportive. Mile 11 and 12 was the same. Mile 13 I ran a little bit more, almost cried. We saw the finish line and I pushed my way to the crowd cheering everyone and then I heard “Alli!” “Alli, run Alli! Run!” I heard my dad and mom’s voice and I put my head down and ran as fast as my tired worn out legs could carry me. Myke and I crossed together and grabbed our medal/cow bells and they had some food waiting for us. I grabbed water and some strawberries and my parents embraced me and held me, saying how proud they were of us. My cousins even came to cheer on another friend and us. It was fun to see them, even if it was for a little bit.
The line of the day came from Myke, “A marathon is two of these!” I may not want to do another one of these for a while, but I think I would in a the very (very) distant future.
We ventured back to my parent’s house, showered and ate some food. Hopped in the car and drove home. We are sore, but are very happy that we have accomplished this life goal.
We took a little nap when we got home
Mom needed a picture of everyone.
