Thank You Notes

Thank_You

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that whenever my birthday is over, I get a little sad. Besides the fact that my birthday is over, to top it all off, I have to write thank you notes to everyone who gave me a gift. Thank you notes were the bane of my existence as a child. You had to get a card, write a sentimental note, and then make sure it was actual put in the mail. This was all true when I was about 7 years old, the older I got,  the more I started to understand the thoughtfulness of a thank you card. Especially now that I am separate from family and close friends, thank you notes have become a more important item in my life. As I was writing my thank you notes for this past birthday, I came up with a few simple reasons why you should write a thank you note.

1. You get actual mail, other than bills and ads. Myke and I open up our mailbox and 99.9% of the time, the only thing in there are paper ads. Stupid. It’s nice to get mail every once and a while.

2. It’s thoughtful. After point number one, you could brighten someone’s day. How awesome would that be?

3. It doesn’t take very much time to do. If you really think about it, the note can be 4 sentences max. I tend to make mine a little longer, but that’s just me.

4. Have you see the cute stationary that is out there? Just at Target alone, the cards are adorable, see example here. I like to buy any cute ones that are on sale, that way I always have a some on hand. Some places I also shop are Paper Source and Sugar Paper, Los Angeles, there are stores for both and an online store for both.

5. It’s a good way to let people know how you feel about the gift. In my notes I like to comment on the gift they gave me. For example, a popular gift people send is money. I like to let them know what I spent the money on. A new outfit, shoes, or saving it for later. People like to hear how they have helped you.

I’m thankful Mom made me write my thank you notes, even though I didn’t like it then. I’m sure every parent likes hearing that statement. Thanks Mama!
