Cake and Donuts

IMG_6829

My husband loves cake and donuts. For our home community groups, I decided to make mini donuts mostly because I wanted to use our mini donut maker that I haven’t used since our first married Christmas. I found a super simple recipe on Pinterest (where else?) that led me to the original blog post and IĀ found a chocolate frosting recipe online. I made these for our ladies and left some for my husband. He could not stop raving about them! He asked when I could make them again. I say that’s a winner. It is basically cake mix

The Donuts (originally from it’s always autumn):

one box of cake mix (I used Chocolate Fudge and White cake)

1 egg

1/4 cup of vegetable oil

1 cup of water

*this will make a lot of donuts, I didn’t count but it does make a lot!

When the batter is ready, I put it in a plastic bag and cut off a corner so I could squeeze it into the little molds easier. Use pastry bags if you have them, the bag was messy, but once I found the rhythm it was fine. When the donuts were done I put them aside so they could cool-this is very important for the frosting part.

Chocolate Frosting:

1 cup of white sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix everything together over heat. When everything is mixed together and it looks smooth, put in mixer and whisk for about 5 minutes. This will not only help cool the frosting, but it will thicken it as well. Once the it has cooled, the donuts had cooled completely and I just dipped them in the mixture and let them sit for about 20 minutes for frosting to harden. Whole process probably an hour, but I was a little scattered just because it was my first time making these, but I know I will make them again. Very soon!

We are calling them COnuts…the name needs a little work…
